December 2008: EA Provide £20K to support the Honddu Project
The Honddu, like the Escley, is another principal Monnow tributary that has not had any habitat improvement works done on it. The Environment Agency has agreed to support the MFA with a grant of £20,000 toward a project of habitat improvement works on several key sites in the Honddu valley, guided by the WTT Advisory Visit and our recently completed habitat survey of the river. The sites will also act as demonstrations to the farmers, local community, potential grant funders and visitors to this part of the Brecon Beacons National Park of the coppicing, fencing and in-stream works that we hope to undertake on other sites on the Honddu. The MFA is match-funding this project by works in kind to the value of £20,000 and BBNP Authority are supporting the initiative with £2,000 cash.
