September 2008:  Escley Project underway with great farmer support

The first chainsaw fired up on the Escley at the beginning of this month on the start of a Project which could see as much as 10Km of river bank improved. Before this the habitat was resurveyed and the farmers have been almost universally welcoming to the idea of coppicing and fencing on their river banks. And, as importantly, most have agreed to the letting of their fishing through the Wye and Usk Foundation’s Passport scheme. This is vital because it is the income to the farmers and the local community from the visiting angler that will ultimately make the works we do now self-sustaining particularly when they are coupled with the MFA’s knowledge and enthusiasm.
